Even in the dead of winter, there’s so much going on in the Wilmington area that it’s hard to keep track of.

We’ve got movies made here getting international releases, songwriters building worldwide audiences and a food scene that’s starting to draw national attention.

With our weekly Port City Life newsletter, we want to be your guide to all of that while also pointing you to some fun reads and other news you can use. Let’s get started.

Weekend weather outlook

To quote the movie “Groundhog Day,” “Don’t forget your booties ’cause it’s cooooold out there.” We’ll actually be pushing 60 on Friday, but Saturday’s high will be just around 40, with a low dipping down to a very unreasonable 20 or so. No bueno!

"I.S.S." shot at EUE Screen Gems Studios in Wilmington in 2021.

Wilmington-area entertainment is all-indoors for the time being, but this weekend there’s plenty of ways to enjoy a peformance and/or screening or three while staying warmly inside.

For starters, Wilmington-shot sci fi thriller “I.S.S.” makes its theatrical debut, and work by artists from around the world will be on display when the long-running No Boundaries International Art Residency on Bald Head Island showcases the fruits of its recent labors.
