Powerful weather fluctuations cause damage to the electricity and communications networks in four villages south of Suluq

Benghazi – Severe weather fluctuations and strong winds caused significant damage. This affected dilapidated electricity and communication networks in four villages. These villages are south of Suluq. The damage led to frequent and prolonged service outages. These outages directly impacted citizens’ lives.

Media and civil activist Khalid Al-Awami reported. He stated that strong winds caused several wooden electricity poles to fall. This led to power outages. These outages lasted up to 48 hours or more. They could extend for continuous days.

Al-Awami explained that local residents often carry out repairs. The service then returns temporarily for 8 to 10 hours. It then cuts off again with any change in weather conditions. This scenario has become a semi-permanent recurrence.

Al-Awami indicated the main reason for this crisis. It is the deterioration of the high-voltage network. This network runs on old wooden poles for nearly 40 kilometers. This clearly violates electricity supply regulations and quality standards. High-voltage lines should pass through dedicated towers.

Power outages coincide with complete disruptions in communication networks. There is no general internet network. Only Libyana’s network operates. This network is also affected by communication outages. No other alternatives are available. This includes private networks, LTT, or ZTE. This deprives residents of any communication means. It happens even when the general electricity network fails.

Residents of the Masus area submitted several complaints. They went to the municipal branch manager. They asked him to contact the electricity company. They want radical solutions to the problem. These solutions include a modern electricity network. They also include completing the construction of towers. This would ensure stable and safe power delivery to citizens.

Residents of Masus village and nearby areas also made demands. These areas include Al-Silk, Wadi Al-Bab, Al-Jahf, and Bal-Qardan. They asked for underground power lines to be replaced. These lines run between buildings and streets. They want them converted into a modern, suspended network. They also requested electricity transformers to meet residents’ needs.

The Masus area alone has an estimated population of 5,000 people. Its geographical area is about 600 square kilometers. The combined population of Al-Silk and Wadi Al-Bab areas is 4,555 people. This includes the Al-Jahf community.
